Did Mozart really die poor, why do Mozartkugeln carry the famous composer's name, and why did he ultimately turn his back on his beautiful hometown? On a guided tour through Salzburg's old town and new town, you will learn interesting facts about Salzburg's most famous son and get to know the city's most important sights.
You will start the excursion from Munich with one of our official tour guides on board. On the bus ride to the Salzkammergut, you will learn entertaining facts about the country and its people. You will pass Lake Chiemsee and, if the visibility is good, you will be able to see as far as the Alps.
In Salzburg, a local guide will take over the city tour. The tour often begins in the new town with Mozart's residence and the baroque Mirabell Palace. The palace gardens were the location for the cult musical and later Oscar-winning film ‘The Sound of Music’, which is particularly popular in English-speaking countries and Asia.
Cross the Salzach Bridge to reach the old town on the opposite bank. This ensemble of Baroque and medieval buildings was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. Mozart's birthplace is located on Getreidegasse, and Wolfgang Amadeus is said to have played the cathedral organ as a child. Other highlights of the tour include the Baroque Kollegienkirche, Residenzplatz square with the Residenz palace and Residenz fountain, Kapitelplatz square, the Old Town Hall, St. Peter's Abbey Church, the Festival Hall and the Felsenreitschule riding school. It is also possible to climb the Mönchsberg or Kapuzinerberg hills.
On request, visits to Hohensalzburg Fortress or Hellbrunn Palace with its water features can also be arranged.
The day trip to Salzburg can also be combined with a trip to Lake Wolfgang. There you can take a boat trip to St. Wolfgang with the famous Hotel Weißes Rössl and the pilgrimage chapel of St. Wolfgang. The return journey usually takes you via the idyllic Lake Mondsee.
